  • How effecient is a details table?

    At my job, we have pseudo-standard of creating one table to hold the "standard" information for an entity, and a second table, named like 'TableNameDetails', which holds optional data elements. On average, for every row in the main table will have about 8-10 detail rows in it. My question is: What kind of performance impacts does this have over adding these details as additional nullable columns on the main table?

    Hello, I have a table containing last_updated_1 and last_updated_2 columns, used respectively for text and images update time on a post. I wish I could get a result set of 10 rows based on all time last updated records contained in the 2 columns, ex. row 1 = last_updated_1 record, row 2 = last_updated_2 record, row 3 = last_updated_1 record, etc. How could I compare inside a MySQL query the both columns values, to get unique & mixed result set ? I want to be able to say how many users have submitted side=true arguments. I mean if 1 user had 10 arguments and another user had 2 arguments (both side=true) I'd want the count to be 2, not 12.

    Hello, I am trying to perform some calculations with a form but every time i try to work with checkboxes it goes wrong. The checkboxes are beign set on value 1 in the form itselff and are being checked if there checked or not. $verdieping = isset($_POST["verdieping"]) ? $_POST["verdieping"] : 0; $telefoon = isset($_POST["telefoon"]) ? $_POST["telefoon"] : 0; $netwerk = isset($_POST["netwerk"]) ? $_POST["netwerk"] : 0; When i try to do calculations every works expect for the options with the checkboxes. When both checkboxes (telefoon & netwerk) are selected the value should be 30. If only one is selected the value should be 20. But no mather what i have tried to write down it always give problem, and it always uses 20, never the value 30. How do i solve this problem? Or suppose i am writing the syntax all wrong to lay conditions to a calculation?     I am writing a big code and I don't want it all to be in my main.c so I wrote a .inc file that has IF-ELSE statement with function and I was wondering can it be written like this: #if var==1 process(int a) { printf("Result is: %d",2*a); } #else process(int a) { printf("Result is: %d",10*a); } #endif I tried to compile it but it gives me errors or in best case it just goes on the first function process without checking the var variable (it is set to 0).

    I need to hide a column as well as other elements when my page is printed , and in order to do that I have a print style sheet, everything works fine, except for the column I want to make disappear, the strange thing is that my stylesheet works in IE , but it didn't in Mozilla and chrome, why's that? Running it without the stream_filter zips right through with a constant memory footprint of ~10 MB. What gives?
